Whatever Happened..

I wonder whatever happened to Flash Trek. I mean FT used to be the going rage for flash gaming. Man, so many people were trying to make plugins and everything, discussing strategies and whatnot. I mean in retrospect, Flash Trek and the times surrounding it where quite fun. Now it seems to have died

I'll say it now, and I mean it without insult or dislike, because I still enjoy the game sometimes.

What new great Broken Mirror or Flash Trek game has there been since the original by Vex? When was the last big development of the unofficial series? If nothing happens, no attention will be given to it, you should know that as much as I have lived through it.

Yeah, I know, it's just kinda disappointing. But it was weird now that you mention it because I would say the last great development was Silvershadows finishing/fixing BM2, yet that hardly got any attention

I'd say it was mostly because how large the lull was, how despite BM2 being "finished" it's not nearly as expansive as vex originally promised, and the simple fact people lost hope and interest due to the hundreds(Is this hyperbole or not? Now that I think about it, I'm unsure) of projects started and not finished by different people.
Lastly, it has a lot to do with the fact the basic engine and gameplay hasn't changed even a little bit, and after seeing the same names in different context over and over, you get tired of it.

Well, I've seen probably at least a hundred FT:BM projects started in the last couple years, so it's probably not that far-fetched.

And I agree, in all of these attempted projects, with the exception of BM3, nobody's really tried to change the engine at all, they're basically just more advanced plugins created without using plugins

Eactly. it got to the point i had difficulty beating silvershadows version, due to just beginning not to care.

Well, if I had a flash editing program, and preferably not via pirating, I'd put my spin on the game.

But the odds of that at all coming true though anyone? Nearly 0 out of nil.

I must say I'm tempted to pirate flash. I do intend to buy it when I get my student ID, but that probably wouldn't be until the fall.

Also, I've had over the months and years ideas regarding BM3 and I'll say it's become much different than original.

A few years ago, Stewi and I came up with this idea, it was a secret Flash Trek project but it never got past the drawing board stage. Essentially it was more like an RTS which is somewhat the direction BM3 would go if I were to try and start it again. But we'll see, my time is tight as it is.

Well the three biggest problems are time (I start uni in the fall), access to Flash and that I sorta need to relearn Flash as I haven't used it in 2 years

Oh well, I suppose it will all work out and make a new game eventually.

Eh, I would first make a star wars version of Flash Trek, see how that goes... I'd probably expand it more too, make it interesting, longer, while fixing a few flaws I think the game should've fixed beforehand.

But that's me.

Actually, it was done with BM a long time ago, though I don't know whatever happened to it.

well, do you mean done, or done and completed? I'm only counting the finished product here.

For the Star Wars one, it was one of those mods that somebody made I think. I think pretty much they just plopped the sprites from Flash Wars into Broken Mirror and made a BM Star Wars game out of it

Yep, their lacking of quality, ingenuity and the fact that they've become so damned repetitive. Like seriously, if someone were to make a new FT game that was legitimately new, life could be breathed into the FT universe again

Unreal Engine, anyone?

Seriously, I dont think it would be too hard to make a Flash Trek-esque top down video game in the Unreal Engine, considering someone knows how to code (or if I took up coding in the Unreal Engine). And I know of a place to get some great models, of course, we would need permission to use them, but the folks there are pretty good.

Thing with Flash is for one, pretty much anyone can use it on most devices and Flash Trek just isn't flash trek if it isn't, well, flash

So long as it might happen in a universe other than BM. I think that convention is just done.
