Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night' Empty Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night'

In a vibrant structure, one seeming fit of nobility, two men sat discussing an important matter.

"If you truly care about them, then you will comply with my orders and fall in line like all the others." a raspy voice stated.

"My men and I will not have the blood of the innocent on our hands, my lord.  You can find others to do such dirty work, we resign from your service" a reply came as he stood up and looked to the door

"Very Well.  Take him away." the first voice commanded to two silhouettes as the crack of a blunt object against flesh is heard.  His vision blurred and came back in a new place, a dark room with a two-way mirror in the place of one wall - a woman and three children were bound to chairs on the other side - and he was bound to the floor and chair he was in.  The same voice as before echoed from behind.

"You can save them if you wish.  You only have to do as I had asked." the raspy-voiced man said as he came into view, he never intended to keep his word. With a single statement into a radio, several armed silhouettes stepped forward from the darkness behind the three on the other side of the glass.  The bound man's eyes widened with this sight and a scream left his lips.  They could never hear it, and he could not hear them.  "But, I think an example needs to be made." the raspy-voiced man said before speaking into the radio once more "Do as you wish gentlemen!"

The vision blurred once more as hours became seconds and with the sound of a set of thunderous cracks came a blinding light.

=== 0530 hours - Kaliz City ===
--Government Sector

General Alec Kaidan had awoken from this nightmare once more since its occurrence almost 8 years before, as he sat up from his desk he wiped away the sweat as he waited for his mind to calm down.  Once it had done so, he went to shower and dress.  Alec then walked to the kitchen of his Apartment, one of many gifts given by those who led the Revolution he had helped turn around and win with his joining their ranks.  He went for the fridge and grabbed for a bottle from within, a liquor bottle.

Empty. Wunderbar... he muttered to himself and instead grabbed a bottle of Juice and a leftover meal from the night before.  He then took a seat at the table there and looked out at the cityscape like almost every day before.

Kaliz was one of the last cities to be taken in the decade-long Revolution, which had only ended merely a year before.  As a result, much of the city was still being rebuilt from the siege and battle that took place.  The only places currently fully rebuilt were the Commercial, Government and two of the four Residential Sectors with the Industrial Sector still mostly in ruins and the Military sector that was home of the military academies and a great deal of military housing complexes entirely ruined or abandoned.  Once he had tired of the view of the city, and had finished eating, Alec hit a switch on a control at his table and the window became a large series of TV and computer monitors, on the TV he turned on the national news station as he went to the computer access station that now extended from the floor and slid on a pair of interface gloves.  That is when the News had finally loaded up on the TV monitor.

"And now for some breaking news from the Government itself." The anchor stated as he pulled up a datapad and began to read off of it, "Last night, near to One A.M., that General Alec Kaidan - one of the heroes of the Revolution against the Natralis Imperium - has announced he will be stepping down from his position as Commander-in-Chief of our Armed Forces.  He had declined to state any reasons for this choice beyond that it was 'something that had to be done' we will bring more information as we fi-" they said by the time Kaidan had muted the TV monitor and had logged into the Military Intelligence Network, looking for a sole file of data he was told to look out for by an Intelligence agent he trusted.

After a half hour of searching and looking through intelligence files from various agents about happenings around the world, he had stumbled upon the file - Codenamed WHITEOUT.

"WARNING: ENCRYPTED DATA.  INSERT REQUIRED CLEARANCE KEY TO ACCESS FILE SET." the computer stated upon tapping the holopad on the access station.  Alec then went to his desk and pulled out an encryption drive from the third drawer and plugged into the side of the access station and tapped once more on the file.

Upon entering his log-in information once more the entire window screen became filled with various data files.  Within an hour of analyzing each he had froze upon seeing something of major importance to him, he tapped on the access station for focus on the particular file.

It was a set of diagrams of an underground facility in the Antarctic and among the diagrams was another file, named SIERRA, he then opened it up for curiosity's sake.  It was a dossier, and upon seeing the first facial picture of the person involved he knew exactly who it was.  The man from his nightmare.

Found you. he says to himself, Now to get to you, and make you pay for all you have done. he then set the document set to print, gathered the sheets into a series of files within a briefcase and handcuffed it to himself.  Minutes later he left his building for meeting with a series of unit commanders he could count on, within the current military office in the heart of the Government Sector.

(Those involved can post at anytime[if I recall Correctly will be Rain,Q and Angus], and whatever order of posts this ends up will be retained until the end.  Say Travels and intros of whoever you send until my next post.)

Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night' Empty Re: Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night'

Post by Quantum Rain Tue Jan 13, 2015 11:00 am

=Virisian Military Gabriel Division Headquarters, 1800 Hours, 5 days prior to above=

Kyle Arter sat uncomfortably in the sparsely-lit, undecorated, plain gray room with the rest of his team sitting in a neat row behind him. As a Major in the Virisian Armed Forces and leader of the Seventy-Third Special Operations Unit, commonly referred to by the codename of “Night Sabre” or to simplify it even more, “Sabre team,” one would imagine him to be more receptive to eerie settings, but the chair offered challenge in the way of discomfort and asymmetry, often shifting on him if he were to move but ever so slightly. This continued until the team’s attention was drawn the front of the room, which suddenly lit up to draw their attention to their commander, who entered the dull, empty briefing chamber with hardly a sound from the entrance to the side.

“Major, do make an effort to sit still.” The man spoke with an annoyed tone and analytical expression as the hologram began projecting from the floor to begin the briefing session. The commander, as the Major identified him, was his usual self. Wearing the dark black and gold uniform of the Virisian Generalship as if it were a heavy burden and such could be truth due to the multiple decorative medals and awards that decorated his uniform, and which were kept in mint condition. The old but wise man showed little in his expressions such as anger or joy, but was quick to display disdain and contempt. His weathered, angular face and nearly snow-white hair that was cleanly kept under his uniform’s cap showed his clearly advanced age. His ice-blue eyes were quick and piercing in their gaze however, and expressed that his mind was as clear and as fast as ever. He may not be a soldier on the front lines, but he was truly a commander, and demanded the respect due to him for his previous accomplishments and battles and his continued success.

“Sorry sir.” The major replied in his usual, sober expression, ceasing his slight squirming. Compared to the commander, the Major was clearly younger, and fresher. His more round face, his straight posture, his fitter physique, his softer blue eyes, and his medium brown hair, also kept clean and short. He may not be nearly as experienced or decorated as the general, but he was a veteran himself, he and his team, and his confidence in his own and his own team’s skills showed clearly in his actions and attitude. Saber team is considered amongst the best of the Special Operations “Gabriel” Division, and he took great pride in that accomplishment.

After the projector finished its preparations, the Spec-ops team was introduced to a series of reports typed out in front of their eyes. Kyle scanned through their contents simply as the general began speaking. “We have been getting continual reports of strange activity within the Antarctic region of the globe, mainly the section south of the Rufetic Federation's borders. While we are still acknowledging their sovereignty, despite rumors of the old regimes continued existence and the new government's instability, we cannot ignore these reports of strange, unidentified military personnel and equipment, and there have been unconfirmed reports of Tiberium presence and radiation in the area. Due to this, High Command has authorized the use of Special Operations teams to infiltrate this region and uncover the truth.” The General started out, as the projector followed suit in visualizing his explanation of the situation.

“Saber team will deploy along the northern coast, they will be outfitted with survival gear, basic weaponry according to your requirements, and also given access to the R-019-b PAO Personal Stealth System to make your lives that much easier.  Your orders are these: Find and infiltrate the unknown military installation, should one exist, and report back on what you find. Eliminate any and all hostiles in the area only if necessary. I also needn’t remind you about the 19th and 20th General Directives of Field Operations. Should that become the case, you are authorized to use whatever means are at your disposal to accomplish those directives. Any questions?” The General’s inquiry was met with momentary silence, and he nodded in appreciation of the team’s mutual understanding of the mission and its parameters.

“Very well, your transport leaves at oh-eight-hundred hours, Vires guide you. Dismissed.” The general ordered, the room darkening as the team departed and began making preparations for their upcoming operation.

Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night' Empty Re: Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night'

Post by Angusm3 Thu Jan 15, 2015 4:06 am

Steve entered the brightly lit room, the door behind him slamming, snapping the attention of most of the room up to him.  "Alright gentlemen, I'm sure you've all read the email I sent."  He looked at the faces, a few looked stern, some were uneasy.  "You didn't read it."  he rolled his eyes.  "Okay, Does anyone here know what a black zone is?"  The entirety of the group murmured their own acknowledgements.  "Well good for that, Our satellites have picked up a possible black zone in the Antarctic, and we've been ordered to investigate.  I'm sure I don't need to tell you about the dangers of tiberium infection, we'll all be taking our full hazard kit, and putting it on well before we're in the area."  He flipped his dossier open.

"Of course I have to stress that this is just a possibility, we know normal tiberium can't grow in such cold climates, or even survive.  If you'll open up the reports I've laid on your desks you'll see the photos we've got so far."  Someone spoke up  "There's melted ice down a good distance, how do we know this is tiberium?"  "Thank you for... pointing out the obvious Ranir, and I just finished saying, we don't know if it's tiberium.  Our scientists can't seem to figure out what would cause such an isolated *cough* 'melted zone'.  We know even less about the new kind of tiberium and how it spreads.  Combining those two areas of not knowing things..."  he paused with his hands mashed together in a kind of sphere shape.  "I'm assuming you see where I'm going with that?"

"I'll finish talking about that later, for now, Hayle has decided in his generosity to get us all the latest and greatest crap for walking around that wasteland in.  Your clothing will be plate armoured, nice and thick for the winter, and of course, it'll be white, drab white.  We won't be getting any of those fancy half-stealth 'attempted invisibility' suits despite how well they'd work with the visibility where we're going nice and low.  They told us that frankly, they'd freeze.  You'll only get those for night missions in warm climates, so sorry, I know you've all been wanting to try them out but not this time.  As for your weapons, they're upgrading Kez to a 7.62 semi-auto rifle that just finished it's testing, apparently you'll even get it named after you if you bring it back in one piece."  not that he'll manage that he thought  "as for the rest of you, you're all getting Samozari...  Samozaryada.. no...  Sa..  God dammit I don't speak Rufetic!  You're all getting SKS Rifles, if you want to know the proper spelling then go google it."

He continued with the rest of the briefing, they were set to depart that night, at 2100 hours, they'd have until then to get their gear in order and get to the airfield.

Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night' Empty Re: Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night'

Post by Sir Noret Fri Jan 16, 2015 9:30 am

Baition/Gelidateum Province/Arx Lendium/Headquarters 4th Special Operations Regiment - Arctic Warfare Group

The briefing room of the 7th platoon was, like most things in the Imperial military, sparse but functional. It was remarkably reminiscent of a class room, it had a whiteboard and a display screen and even had old re-purposed school desks. At the moment, it had only the seven men of Eta Squad in it, their commander, Captain Artus Hasul, stood by the display screen which currently had an image of the Antarctic project onto it. "Alright, command has seen fit to send us out on a recon mission in the Antarctic, south of the Rufetic Federation."

"There have been reports of unusually heavy activity in the region so we're being deployed to figure out what's going on. It may be tiberium related so we'll be equipped with hazard gear in addition to our normal arctic gear. We aren't being given any heavy weaponry beyond shaped charges, but it is unlikely we'll run into any heavy machinery down there anyway."

"Furthermore, it is likely that we will encounter foreign agents, particularly from the Rufetic Federation and we have been instructed to quote 'not cause an international incident' end quote. However, we have been authorized to work with them engage them as necessary since we will be out of contact with command for most of the mission. Any questions?"

"No, sir!" The squad responds in unison.

"Alright, we move out in a hour so go see the quartermaster for your gear; meet at the west dock at 13:00"

Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night' Empty Re: Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night'

Post by Comrade Greiv Sun Jan 25, 2015 6:38 am

== February 9, 1000 Hours, Kaliz City==
-- Government Sector
--- Acting Rufetic Federation High Command Center, 20th floor, SpecForce Conference Room 16

The room was a rather "Sterile" environment, with the walls covered in a pale white paint that in the current light glowed through the circular chamber.  At the Center of the room was an opening in the floor that gave way to a holoprojector just beneath its threshold, surrounding the projector and elevated above it were desks for any of the countless SpecForce units who would be required in this room to sit at; a short distance away was a retracting wall that Alec had recently finished stocking with material for this briefing.

As he waited for the arrival of the commanders from the 37th Armor Brigade, 71st Infantry Brigade as well as the 15th Ranger and 27th Recon SpecForce Regiments, Alec stepped into the Command room for a coffee and a small snack.  After a few minutes, his eyes gazed the ring he placed on the counter earlier within the room.

It was a simple ring of Gold, yet was one that held a great deal of significance to Alec.  A wedding ring from a marriage that long ago ended, and of a family long gone -- a symbol of Vengeance yet dispensed.  He took the ring into his hand, and an old memory of his Wife, two daughters and young son looking upon the Gates of Valhalla from Mount Fae in the Southern Islands of the old Imperium.  The memory quickly faded as he heard the doors of the main room open and close, he placed the ring into his right breast pocket and walked out.

In the main room 8 soldiers were now seated.  Colonel Jack Brown and Major Victor Strauss of the 37th Armor Brigade sat at the desks in the first row near the door, Colonel Alexander Dempsey and Lieutenant Colonel Jessica Anders of the 71st Infantry Brigade took up the desks in the Second row almost equal to Brown and Strauss on the opposite side of the door.  In the Fourth Row above the door sat Lieutenant Colonel Terek Johnston and Captain Gerald Grossman of the 15th Rangers and Colonel Joesph Braden and Captain Alexis Dietrich of the 27th Recon were sitting side-by-side.  Each were fumbling with the folders that were on the table at the entrance to the room with their names on them.

Time to get this show on the road. Kaidan thought to himself as he made his way to the Podium just before the Holoprojector.

"Good morning everyone." he began and got the same reaction from each member in attendance, "I am glad that all of you have made it here, especially with all of your assignments.  No doubt each of you are wondering why you are here."  They looks of everyone in the room confirmed this, he then activated the interface controls of the Holloprojector and brought up a holoprojection of the Falthra region of the Antarctic as the lights were brought down and the hologram filled the room with light of its own.

"The Antarctic?" Anders asked with a very quizzical look on her face, "What is so important about it that required us to be here?"

"The answer is within the Brief that each of you have." Kaidan paused as each person opened their folders, "As you all know, one year ago victory was achieved against the Natralis Imperium and its leadership.  However, again as you all know, neither the Emperor Wilhelm Straße, his heir, or the I Corps Imperial Guard were ever found.  They disappeared from their stronghold near Mount Fae the night before it was seized without resistance."

"And it is believed that," Colonel Braden chimed in with a stern look on his face as he thumbed through his folder, "that they all fled to the Antarctic.  What evidence is there for this claim, when there is nothing that they could flee to there?"

"The evidence lies with Satellite imagery from our Specialist Intel Corps," Kaidan said as he zoomed the projection to frame the mountain, 'Valhalla's Gate', and brought up a thermal overlay "through this image it can be seen that there is a special form of thermal radiation in a concentrated area that is showing an anomalous melting of of Ice and Snow in that area.  SIC also says that the Thermal Radiation signature matches..." the hologram then brings up a view of a reactor, "...this.  A Daktra 541-class Reactor, potentially more than one based on the output as well."

From a look around the room Alec saw doubt in the faces of each person, other than Braden who had already finished reading through his brief.

"If you still doubt this intel, turn to the 10th page of your brief." with this each soldier turned and hesitated upon seeing the images clipped to that page. "They were gather by the SIC Operative know as Viper, and was given to me directly by Viper.  This Intel is good, and I wish it confirmed by boots on the ground."

"Why us, General?" Clonel Dempsey asked as he leaned forward, the large scars from numerous battles showing very clearly in the blue light of the hologram,

"I brought this to the attention of each of you for one simple reason." Alec stated as he looked at each person bringing the lights back up in the process, "Strasse has caused each of you a great deal of pain, Psychologically, Physically and/or Emotionally.  And I know that each of you want him to face the proper punishment that only an enraged soldier can provide.  Further, each of you are individuals I have know since the beginnings of my career and I trust each of you with my life."

He paused and then thought back to the ring in his pocket, "In 4 days time, I will disembark with as many volunteers that I can find in order to fulfill this, and I hope that I could count on each of you and your commands.  There would be few others that I could ask that would understand how I feel about ensuring the Emperor is given justice for all the suffering he caused in our nation.  And, of course, none of you are obligated to follow me.  If you do, stand up and come join me down here, or if not take your leave."

He waited for a few minutes as they made up their minds.  To his Surprise, every person chose to join him.  He then went over to the retracting wall which showed a pair of jet black armor suits.

"Alright then, these will be required for the operation for all personnel.  They are experimental XA-528 Enviro Armor Suits (LEFT), each provide excellent Ballistics protection and have their own Oxygen scrubbers and supply tanks for when needed.  They are also rated for any environment that could be faced with a specialized environmental control within.  For this operation they will also have the plating whitewashed and for each you will be given a cloak to mask the joints.  Furthermore, we only have as many as 20,000 of these in total, set for prototype testing trials in the coming months for SpecForce personnel."

"Yet not all of us are SpecForce, sir.  What about us?" Colonel Dempsey asked

"You will be after this operation." Kaidan responded as he went to the door, "Follow me."

Alec then took them to a lower level where a number of armored vehicles were placed, "For the 37th Brigade, you will be given these vehicles for use in the operation.  Each is a specialized version of the Leopard-series Main Battle Tank made for Arctic Warfare, these in particular are newer Leopard 3s with modifications for Severe Winter weather and up-gunned from the 120mm L55 to a 140mm L70 cannon." As Colonel Brown and Major Strauss inspected the MBTs, Alec made his way over to a vehicle covered with a tarp and started to pull with the requested help of Dempsey, Dietrich and Anders.  Underneath was another experimental tank, "And another for your testing."  They turned and saw a larger more heavily armed tank.  "The designers and makers call it the M7 Devastator, armed with twin 70 caliber 140mm guns and a number of anti-infantry weapons along with countermeasures to diffuse missiles and other AT weapons."

--- 20 minutes later ---

They were all back in the Briefing room and Kaidan went over the final details.  The 15th Rangers and the 27th Recon would drop in with him near the coast and secure forward LZs for the 71st Infantry and 37th Armor Brigades where they would then make a final push to take assault the Facility that the remaining members of the Natralis Imperium are in hiding.

"The Operation begins in 4 days, wheels up for the the 15th, 27th and myself at 2200 hours on the 13th.  71st and 37th Brigades, it will take about 2 months until both of you are on the ground, keep your troops sharp.  Any Further questions." Alec stated as he looked around at each of the commanders.

"No sir." each responded in unison.

"Very Well, Dismissed.  See you all at Fort Zarl in 3 days."

-- Research Installation Zero One

"Good morning, General..." A raspy voice echoed within the dark control center startling the officer at the desk illuminated.  The man walked forward into the light given off by the monitors, it was Emperor Straße.  The soldier jumped up and saluted. "At Ease, General.  How is everything today?" Straße asked as he took a sip of tea form the cup he was holding.

"All is well my Lord." he responded with a sweat as he slowly calmed down from the small fright from his drowsy state, "Must say I was not expecting you today."

"Nonsense, I am the one who should apologize to you Heydrich." He said as he stepped forward and placed a hand on the man's shoulder, "out of Curiosity, when is the next scheduled set of drills for the security systems?"

"Tomorrow, my lord." Heydrich stated as he turned back to the desk in front of the monitors and picked up a datapad, "Starting from tomorrow until the 17th.  Will ensure that they do not disturb you."

"Danke." Straße then turned to leave but paused at the door as it opened, "General Heydrich?"

"Sir?" he said and turned toward the Emperor.

"Get someone else to take your shift for the next few days, you should get some rest." Straße declared as he stepped out into the Corridor.

General Heydrich smiled and gave a sigh of relief to being granted time off by the Emperor.  He then turned to the directory for off-duty personnel and took a quick look for a replacement, he then made a call to the assignment office to get them to send in Sergeant Baxter Lucey Brian.

(*     - Armor mentioned has no excess functionality beyond what is stated and modern military gear sets)
(**   - Yes, the M7 uses an Apocalypse Tank picture, but does not function like one in RA2)
(*** - And yes the Last line is fully intended as a joke)

Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night' Empty Re: Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night'

Post by Quantum Rain Thu Jan 29, 2015 5:06 am

Kyle stood on the bow of the ship as it cut through the icey water. His breath steamed in the biting cold air, as he saw the coastline of the antarctic ahead in the clear horizon. "If it weren't for the cold, I'd almost call this scenic." Kyle commented to the man that approached from somewhere behind him, his boots thudding against the metal flooring of the deck.
"Getting sentimental again, sir? We could always just leave you here as a retirement gift." The man replied jokingly. Kyle turned and smiled, recognizing the man as Caiden Royle, his lieutenant.
"That's quite tempting, but I think I'll pass."
"Suit yourself, sir."

Kyle returned to gaze at the horizon, leaning on the ice cold metal railing. "Is everything set?" Kyle asked idly.
"Yes, sir. The general made sure of that. If I may say so, isn't it odd that he's joining us to keep watch?" Caiden replied passively.
"Who knows why the old man does anything. We might as well get set, he might get grumpy if we're not ready for school." Kyle answered sarcastically, as he straightened up and walked down the deck.
--
It was a few short hours before the team found themselves within the APC, trudging through the ice and snow along to their destination. Kyle addressed his team while they went. "As we got closer to the overall theatre, we started tracking unidentified signals several kilometers south of where we landed. Our first priority is to investigate there and report in. We are not going to engage the enemy at this time until we can identify them. Questions?"
"Is the Rufetic Federation involved?" One of the team members inquired.

"We don't think they are, but I'm not going to jump to conclusions. They've been so involved with their civil war and restructuring that this might not be within their ability to accomplish. We won't know until we see how large the operation is." Kyle replied with his own analysis. "For all we know, it could be an altogether different organization. That's what we're here to find out, firstly."
The vehicle bounced once on the rough terrain it traversed over at the time that Kyle finished. His answer was greeted with a myriad of expressions, mostly calm and understanding, but some were curious and inquisitive. "We'll be observing communications silence with command until we have identified the enemy. You might as well get comfy, as well, it's going to be a long ride."

Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night' Empty Re: Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night'

Post by Angusm3 Fri Jan 30, 2015 3:28 am

February 14th, 2240 hours

"So why do you wear the eyepatch if you can see just fine?"  Raff had, up until a few minutes ago thought Kez had a busted eye.  "I wear it for the ladies, ain't that right Hetty?"  "Betcher tiny ass, Kez."  She muttered with a smirk as she continued counting her rounds.  "I was in a barfight quite a while ago, got this"  he lifted the fabric from his left eye "See?  It's one of those cool ones you see on badasses!  My eye's fine though, I actually just started wearing the thing while it was healing and never stopped.  I've noticed it's way easier to have this on than keep my eye closed for hours while I'm aiming down my scope as well."

"TEN MINUTES TO JUMP, EVERYONE READY BACK THERE?"

Steve ran up to the cockpit, the pilot and copilot, Gryn and Jack were focused on their job, but turned around to see the thumbs up from the squad leader before he went back to sit next to his kit.  Motioning for the rest of his squad to gear up, he put his own pack on, did his double checks, and made sure he had everything secured and combat ready.  After all, Tiberium spawn wasn't easy to take down unprepared.  "Radios?"  "Check."  "Yessir."  "Where's my battery?"  everyone looked over to the new guy "C'mon Raff, gotta have yer radio if you get lost out there." spoke Kez "Here it is, it was.. right... here.. Sir."  he muttered out, clicking it into his radio and doing a quick click test.  "Kez you should have 3 mags of rip rounds."  he patted the front of his vest "here, here, and here sir."  "and 8 mags of FMJ." he waved his hands around the rest of his vest  "all here sir."  "You two, guns cleaned, and clear?"  Ranir and Raff held up their rifles showing off their pristine condition and empty chambers.  "I'll trust you with the rest Kez."

"THREE MINUTES"

Kez started  "Alright guys, chutes on!  HALO jump, the wind ain't too bad on the ground, once we're down we'll find the APC drop, it should be at most 1km away from our LZ.  Everyone, trackers on, test them now."  The trackers all pointed to the APC sitting in the middle of the plane.

"TWO MINUTES.. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!"

The entirety of the plane shook with a powerful explosion.

"SHIT WE JUST TOOK A HIT FROM SOMETHING!"
Jack turned to Gryn "that was flak, no doubt about it, detonated real fuckin' close!"  "Get back there and start the process!"  He quickly rushed to the back of the plane and another explosion sent flames through the cockpit, lighting Gryn on fire and burning him alive.  The screaming was halted quickly with a gunshot from the cabin.

By now the squad was re-evaluating the mission completely.  “Jack get us as low to the ground as you can, and keep us there.  We’re going to get the APC detached from the drop pallet.”  a third explosion took out a good chunk of the wing and left a large fireball in the sky, visible to anything not over the horizon.
After an unimaginably difficult struggle, Jack had wrestled the plane to a few feet above the ground, repeatedly scraping along it, he took some wires and wrapped them around the wheel to hold it in place.  Before leaving, he turned to the corpse of Gryn.  “I’ll get you a proper burial.”  Removing the m9 from his hand, he ran to the APC and got in, the back of the plane was open now and skidding along the snow.  “He’s in!  Punch that shit Raff!”  shouted Kez.  They flew out the back, landing on the snow and barely managing to keep the tracks spinning at a speed enough to keep them from flying off.  After a good 15 seconds that seemed like at least 5 minutes to the crew, they had stopped moving, the plane was still going, losing speed and on fire, but still going southwest.  It would probably stop and crash after a few more kilometers.

it was quite a while before anyone spoke. The first one to say anything was Steve
“Alright… New mission.”

Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night' Empty Re: Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night'

Post by Comrade Greiv Fri Mar 13, 2015 4:18 am

(Been made aware of Q dropping out of the SL, so time for the next round then.  He can however join in later if he wishes to join back in.)

== February 13, 1600 hours, Faye Province ==
-- Mount Faye, Outskirts of Fort Zarl

It was a very frigid day, like most others, at the Summit of Mount Faye.  General Kaidan sat before a small fire, reflecting upon all the times he was once here with his family.  Despite all the pain such memories once caused, for once in a very long time he felt warmth from them rather than anguish.  These memories flooded his mind as he looked to the pair of rings he held in his hand, twin golden rings tied to a small chain necklace that had always kept him bound to his past, to the anger that had long seethed for nearly a decade.

His reflections, however, came to a quick end as two soldiers came up to and took a seat by the fire as well; Colonels Terek Johnston and Joseph Braden.

"Is everything okay sir?" Braden asked, "We've all been searching high and low for you."

"Aye, I am alright" Alec responded as he returned the rings to one of his breast pockets, "Just needed someplace to go to collect my thoughts for tonight."

"You certain that he is there?  That this will be truly worth the effort?" Johnstons asked as he leaned forward to add some logs to the fire.

Alec leaned back and looked at both of them for a short time, noting the doubt in both of their faces.  "There is not doubt in my mind that we will find what we've been seeking."

The both of them then turned to look back towards the fire, with Valhalla's Gate visible far in the background(~300 kilometers).

Alec then stood up and grabbed some of his loose equipment and started down the slope, back to Fort Zarl.  "Come on gents, about time we get back and get some rest before tonight.  Remember, Wheels up at 2200!"

Both Johnston and Braden then stood up and started after Alec, "Yes Sir!"

=====  10 hours later =======

The cargo bay of the A-400M began to buzz with activity as they finally were nearing the drop zone, approximately 5 minutes until they were to disembark.  The bay was cramped to capacity with troops, especially with everyone prepping for the drop.  This activity continued until the lighting changed from a low-level orange to red, signalling it was time for everyone to get ready to jump.

As everyone lined up, barely weighed down by the hundred and fifty plus pounds of excess gear beyond their armor, the jump masters took their positions by the back door of the aircraft's cargo bay.

"Final Equipment Checks!" they shouted, amplified by a set of speakers they had mics hooked up to within the bay.  Everyone quickly went into a check of each others equipment giving a pat on the back of the helmet to tell who ever was checked that they were good.

"Engage Environmental systems!" Alec stated into his communications unit broadcasted to everyone in the aircraft, when the Jump Masters were sure of everyone having started theirs up they then opened the cargo bay doors.  Despite the warmth of their armor, the piercing of the cold was nearly crippling; this mainly due to the altitude of the aircraft.

Shortly after all of this the lighting of the cargo bay went green and the Jump masters began shouting for everyone to go.  After everyone was off Alec then took his plunge into the dark abyss.  The sight that greeted him first was the huge clusters of red flares from each of the jumpers, followed by huge formation of 44 A-400Ms and 20 C-5s that began their turn towards home.  After a few minutes of falling, Alec's chute opened and within 3 minutes he was on the ground and began to unpack necessary equipment from his excess gear.  He looked around and saw the thousands more rallying together and getting the support vehicles dropped with them set to go.  Within a half hour, the two SpecForce regiments were set up and ready to move out and began the several month long trek towards Valhalla's Gate.

====== The Next Day =======
-- 2300 hours, Research Installation Zero-One

Alarms were blaring as the facility went on full alert.  Because of this Straße made his way to the command center to find out what the cause of the commotion was for what should have been a simple set of drills.  When he arrived he found General Heydrich cussing out Sergeant B. L. Brian for Incompetence.

"What is going on General." Straße asked with an eyebrow raised and Sergeant Brian caught a short breather as heydrich turned his focus away from him.

"The Air Defense system went live and shot down an unknown in our airspace..." Heydrich responded, taking a short breath and turning back towards Brian, "When it should have simply been left to pass, instead of drawing attention to us."

Emperor Straße then stepped forward and laid a hand on Sgt. Brian's shoulder to attempt to get him to relax.  As soon as Sgt. Brian seemed to relax and return to watching the monitors he motioned to his two guards who then rushed up to the Sergeant and dragged him out kicking and screaming.  He then turned to Heydrich.

"Oh well, what's done is done.  Send a Hunter squadron out to search the wreckage, find any survivors and extend to them our warmest of welcomes." He stated as he turned to leave.

"Yes Sir!" General Heydrich Joyfully responded with the largest smile he could physically manage on his face as he turned to the nearby communications terminal and gave the order to Reaper Squadron, their best squad of Hunters.  He then turned to the primary console and shut down the alarm.

Post by Quantum Rain Wed Apr 08, 2015 1:22 pm

==February 14th, 2210 Hours==

Kyle and his squad had left their APC behind some distance, having neared their target, and began making the short trek to the fortifications they had pinged earlier.

It was only in that short time that Kyle truly realized how god-forsaken cold it was here. He knew they always said that the arctic areas were frozen wastelands filled with snow, ice, and flightless birds, but it never hit him how cold it would be! It was seeping through the armor even! All this served to do was make him somewhat bitter as he waded through the snow and soft, chilling winds of the white tundra, leaving a trail of footprints behind him that were blown over with snow, pushed their by the wind.

It wouldn't be long before they came upon a small slope, a place to at least look overhead from. As he and his team hastily walked and then crawled up the hilltop, they looked overhead to see the massive structure they pinged earlier today. Even at night, it glowed and shone with activity inside, but strangely enough, none outside whatsoever. Not even guards. Kyle laid close to the ground to avoid being spotted, noting these immediate oddities as he activated the scanning system in his helmet, attempting to examine and analyze the strange structures that lay ahead of him.

"Looks like a fortified complex of some description. The CATS hasn't seen anything like it before, and I don't see any markings." Kyle murmured, as Caidan activated his own and looked down upon the complex of, what seemed to him, towers connected to a central body, and with a larger, sloped structure to the rear with two smaller branches to either side of it.

"I don't see anything living either." He commented, switching to thermal, and then infrared vision in an attempt to identify any potential combatants in the vicinity. "At least, not outside or in that small set of exterior structures. If there's anyone alive, they're inside. Probably where it's warm."

"Jealous, lieutenant?" Kyle teased, but noted the same thing. It was quiet, far too quiet, for what intelligence had previously reported. "We should probably take a closer look."

Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night' Empty Re: Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night'

Post by Angusm3 Thu Apr 09, 2015 4:26 am

February 15th, 0600 hours

Jack woke up with the hum of the APC, everyone had become fully suited up in their Arctic combat gear.  The mood was solemn as Sergeant Major Stypp kept the vehicle moving.  The other three had a map splayed out on the floor and were using various instruments to come up with some sort of battle plan, or path.  The looks on their faces were stern, but showing a mixture of grim regret and suppressed hatred.  "When did I pass out?"  he asked, his body slumping into a head-down position in his seat. He noticed something on Arnold's eyepatch as he looked up at him from the map, it was a bit shiny.  "Welcome back Jack, did you get a chance to see where the shit that hit us came from?"  The other two turned to him, Jake sitting next to him looked over for a response while Het looked up from her laying position next to the map.  "The came from the Right, given the direction we were going, that'd be south, that's all I got.  Sorry..."  "That's about all we had already.  I guess we're just going to have to keep going the same way then, we should be able to get there within a day or two in this thing.  They hit a bump and Arnold's eyepatch glinted again.  "What's in your eyepatch Kez?"  "What?  There's something in my eyepatch?" he took it off and looked, there was a piece of shrapnel deeply embedded into it but the thick material had stopped it from reaching his eye.  "Son of a bitch this thing stopped me from needing it for real!"  He was about to pluck the metal out but, "Eh what could happen, looks cooler this way anyway"  The group exhaled in what seemed like the start of a laugh, and then looked back to their plan.  "So what's the plan guys?"  "We're obviously not ready to assault a place that could do that as we are, but we can still do some recon.  Radio in the APC isn't sufficient for contacting something as far away as Hayldrig, we're pretty much stuck out here, no reinforcements, and our mission is something we're barely geared for.  But we're The Guardian Angels for a reason, Protecting the world from the spread of Tiberium.  As the spearhead for its research we've all seen some of the worst shit it has to offer, the black zone titans, the biological experiments the other nations are creating, and those poor bastards that live in the NTAA.  Jack, you're one of us now."  Jake put the Gryn's m9 into his lap, followed by its magazine.  "You've got enough training to keep up.  Put this on, we'll need to be ready for anything out here in the wild, the creations of the nations on this planet are beyond what they let most of us see."  He was handed a winter coat, luckily it was white, and would act as camouflage but it had no armour padding like the rest of the squad.  He was then given a bandolier.  "What am I going to do with this many grenades?!"  "Who knows, save the day?  Be our ace in the hole?  you're going to need to stay hidden anyway with no armour, you'll be our demolition man."

2250 Hours

Perimeter Fortress Alpha-1
A Communications terminal sprung to life within the Command Center, gaining the attention of the Garrison's Watch Commander.  He stood up from his desk and made his way to the terminal and answered, he was greeted with a holo of General Heydrich, he snapped a salute in response.

At Ease.  Operative Krieg, we have an assignment for you and your team.
"Oh?  Finally some excitement for once." Kreig responded with what could be believed to be a joyful look on his face.
Yes, one you and Reaper Team should thoroughly enjoy... he said as the holotable to Krieg's side sprang to life, An aircraft of unknown origin had, as of a few moments ago, been picked up by our Air Defense Network and was shot down.  I want you and your team to go investigate the crash site and find any survivors.
"And then, sir?" Krieg asked as he looked over the details of the map.
Find out why the plane and any survivors are here, and extend our warmest welcomes to them.

As Heydrich said this the communications link shut down and Kreig began to smile, he called for Reaper Team to meet in the command center.  Within minutes they had arrived and Krieg filled them in on the details of what they were to do.  After finishing the briefing, Viper, the team's best marksman, chimed in.

"And what are we to do when we find anyone?" she asked
"From Heydrich himself, we are to 'Extend our warmest of welcomes' to them." Kreig stated with a joyful smile.

"Can we really trust the fort with these amateurs, sir?" Zsaz, the Team's Assassin, asked in reference to the Forty soldiers who garrisoned the fortress along with them.
"To be honest, no.  But there should at least be a handful of them to actually make things function around here." Krieg paused to see if any more questions woud come up from the nine members of Reaper Team and sensing none began again, "Alright, if there are no further questions then get suited up and lets move out.  No more than 40 Mikes."

Within 40 minutes Reaper team was fully equipped and underway towards the crash site, masked by the darkness of the cloudy night sky and the cloaking modules of their armor.  To all but the most eagle-eyed of individuals would notice any sign of their departure at the time

2335 Hours, Perimeter Fortress Alpha-1
The base was in a state of relative inactivity.  Of its forty-man garrison: Thirty are asleep for the night or current patrol shift, Five are patrolling the lower three levels of the seven story facility, Four were in the Mess Hall on the Fifth floor of the facility in a rousing game of Poker, and the last of the Night shift was in the Command Center on the top floor logged into computer terminal connected to the General Personnel Access Computer Mainframe surfing the Internet.

Despite all of this, external defenses were all offline due to the soldiers' belief that nothing was going to happen on this night, just like any other night from the past 5 years that they were staffing this Perimeter Fort.  Completely unaware of anything going on not to far outside the facility.

(Angus)

A short distance away, on an overlooking Ridge line

"We've reached the Crash site, sir" Zsaz stated over the radio to Krieg, who was with Viper and Viktor(Reaper's Demolitions Expert)
"What did you find?" Kreig responded as he kept an eye on the APC slowly making its way through the valley below, himself as well as Viper and Viktor each cloaked to better hide them away from sight.
"It is a Military Transport plane, found a single body among the wreck and it seems like evidence of heavy equipment brought in with it." Zsaz stated as he continued to walk through the wreck of the plane, coming to a stop at the lone man who remained in it.  The man had a fearful look on his face and was badly burned.
"Roger, we found said heavy equipment and it seems the potential survivors as well." Kreig responded.
"Oh, really, what is it that this was carrying then?" Zsaz asked as he got Xena and Freidrich, Two of the Assault specialists of the team, and got the lone man out of the plane and moved him to a nearby cave.
"It appears to have been an APC of some type, we've been tracking it the past two hours.  Get to our position as soon as you can, we've got an ambush prepped." Kreig calmly said to Zsaz and then turned to Viktor "The Explosives are set?"
"Aye sir.  AT Smart Mines in the next two Valleys that they can traverse with that vehicle, about 4 kilometers from here.  Set it up about an hour and a half ago with Wolf." Viktor responded.
"Good, let's get on our way then." Krieg stated as he nodded to Viper and the three of them got up and began their quick trek after getting on the opposite side of the Ridge's peak.

Meanwhile...
"Yes, sir.  We'll be on our way there soon." Zsaz responded over the radio to Krieg and then turned back to setting up charges in calculated points of the roof of the cave, with the body of the unknown man at the center - posed as though he were in a funeral coffin.  The process takes a mere few minutes

"Why are we even doing this?" Xena asked as she, Zsaz and Freidrich all made their way to the plane's wreck.
"Because Xena, all bodies deserve a grave after death rather than being left for wildlife to feed upon it or to decay as it fell.  All bodies, be them of a friend or foe deserve such respect." Zsaz stated as he left a datapad in a compartment underneath the seat where the unknown man was found, detailing where the body was if his comrades were to ever make it back to find him.  He then pulled out a detonator and blew the charges in the Cave, sealing the entrance of the cave where they left the unknown man but in such a way that the body was still left entirely intact and retrievable.  "Alright then, time to move.  We've got a long hike ahead of us to get to the Rendezvous." he finished as they began their trek to the ambush point.

== February 16, 2200 Hours ==

The Special Forces group of the Rufetic Federation Task Force had found a Cavern system to hole up for a night after treking 40 Kilometers in order to get some sleep prior to continuing the trek to the first Rendezvous for the Infantry Brigade.  Other than Perimeter Scouts and the Commanding officers, the whole of the group were catching up on their rest.

"Perimeter scouts report no activity sir, any idea how much further until we begin the next stage of the landings?" Colonel Braden asked as he and his XO, Alexis Dietrich took a seat across a fire from Kaidan, Johnston and Grossman.

"About another 60 kilometers, on the next Major Plateau.  By then the terrain will be less rugged and we will be able to get the Infantry's vehicles to the facility easily without too much of a hassle."  General Kaidan said as he referred to his Operations map, "From there another 40 til the Armor Brigade can land and we can begin the assault on the Facility."

"Sounds like a hell of a fun time." Johnston stated as he was starting to fall asleep

The Five then shared a short laugh at the response, it became evident to them that they should all get to sleep given this quickness to laughter over such a minor statement.  After gaining their composure they, other than Johnston, began to stare at the fire.

"Funny how all this began..." Dietrich stated with a serious tone in her voice, "How everything for us began..."
"An almost unending war, one of the worst the world has probably seen." Grossman responded, "All because of the greed of one bastard...  If only we had found him a year ago..."
"What's done is done, we'll correct that mistake." Kaidan stated grimly.  "We will make him pay for all that he has done to not only us, but also the millions that he had killed."
"Are you sure of that, sir?" Braden asked as he looked up at Kaidan, "What if he isn't actually here?"
"I know he is here Braden, especially given the fact that the agent who got all the information for us had images as up to date as two weeks ago.  And further that every single image of him was taken from a GPS location that corresponds directly with the coordinates of Valhalla's Gate."

There was a time of silence between the group before they all looked up at each other.  They all then agreed it was time to get some sleep before the day's trek and then hit the fire with a CO2 extinguisher and took up a place to sleep.

Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night' Empty Re: Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night'

Post by Quantum Rain Tue May 23, 2017 6:26 pm

==February 14th, 2215 Hours==

Kyle took a moment to analyze the layout of the complex and how best to approach entering it. Upon coming up with a satisfactory plan, he gathered his team and began splitting them up into smaller groups.

“Alright, Hawkeye, keep eyes on out here, notify me if anything moves. Elvee, Van, Creed, recon the outlying buildings, see if you can find out anything from the equipment and what kind of operation we’re dealing with. Caiden, take Rose and Spider around the side, enter through there and scan for hostiles. Bird, you’re with me. We’re going around the other side to see if we can find a computer room or a command center. Keep quiet and hold fire until I say so. Once inside, go silent, and use ‘purring’ to communicate if you have to.” Kyle issued his orders in quick succession. The others of his team nodded their understanding and spread out, moving towards their objective with an extraordinary caution and silence.

As the teams began traversing down the slope to the sprawling complex, they disappeared entirely, vanishing from sight when their suit’s camouflage systems engaged. The lone sniper almost imperceptible over the crest, surveying the entirety of the complex for movement with her infrared vision, as the night that blanketed the icy landscape made it difficult to see. She tracked the movement of all three teams as they neared their assigned objectives, as well as scanning for movement all around the complex, but found nothing of note yet. It seemed abandoned.

--
The first team, consisting of Elvee, Van, and Creed, began scouting out the outlying structures. Starting with the first, being some form of hangar almost buried in snow, the team discovered little more than barely functional snowmobiles and truck. While the vehicles seemed specially built for the inclement weather, they appeared to be run down and left to rust in the hangar, having been neglected for several years at least. The other buildings were similar, being various crates, empty domes, and other small huts, all with varying states of maintenance, other heavy tools, and extreme conditions equipment.

--
The second team, with Caiden, Rose, and Spider, ran around the side of the looming, featureless structure, passing by two large columns that stood almost as tall as the main body of the structure at the back. There were more pipes leading into the structure than there were windows looking out, which was hardly surprising to Caiden. There wasn’t exactly much to see out here in this Vires-forsaken wasteland of an island. It wasn’t long before they found a heavy steel door leading into the side of the building.
“We’re in position, standby.” Caiden reported through the radio, looking back at his teammates that were outlined with green silhouettes to help identify them through the snowy wind and their camouflage systems.

Spider was a tall, slender man known for his unrivaled speed and agility, the name coming from his hobby of mountain climbing. Rose was considerably smaller but built a fair amount thicker than Spider, known not for her sweetness but rather for her thorny disposition and her love of demolitions. Between the two of them, Caiden was the most average person one could imagine, both in physique and personality, but most that know him would know better than to underestimate the sardonic, charismatic, and perhaps the most perceptive of the team.

The three took up positions on either side of the door as they approached. They lacked a keycard for the security scanner at the front of the locked door, but that wasn’t much of an issue.
“Rose, get the door open, quietly,” Caiden ordered, motioning her forward.
Rose nodded and moved up, shouldering her battle rifle, an SH-524A burst fire, and grabbing a rectangular device from her pack. Placing it near the lock on the side of the building, she pressed a series of buttons that caused the device to flash once before emitting a signal. In a moment, the lock beeped and clicked. Caiden gently pushed the door open and looked inside, keeping his rifle in hand for any incoming hostiles. What he found was simply more empty hallways with dim, sometimes flickering lighting and more rooms.
Caiden motioned his team forward and then spoke into his radio as he closed the door behind them, Rose having retrieved the device used earlier.
“We’re in; going silent.”

--
The third team, consisting of Kyle and Bird, fast walked to the front of the building, leaving little to no trail due to the wind swiftly covering up their tracks. Still invisible to sight, the duo approached the massive hangar door at the front that looked to serve as the garage entrance to the complex, and from there, traced along the side of the building to the far end from Team 2.

Kyle didn’t quite understand what the structure could be being used for, or what its purpose was if it was just another abandoned base. It was too large for a simple research station, but too small for a command center. It certainly wouldn’t be useful as a vehicle depot, not here. He suppressed his pondering for now as they approached the door, motioning Bird forward. As expected, the door was locked with what appeared to be an outdated ID scanner. From what he could tell through the infrared and holo visions, this base, if it was still being used for military purposes, certainly wasn’t built with heavy security in mind. He supposed they didn’t expect anyone to find them, let alone infiltrate their arctic operation.

Kyle received Caiden’s status update, his voice barely perceptible over the howling wind in the background. All seemed to be going well. “Copy, breaching the far side entrance.”

Bird took up a flanking position on the other side of the door as Kyle grabbed a rectangular device from his pack and utilizing the same method of entry as Team 2. As the lock clicked, Bird pushed the door open and quietly strut through, with Kyle not far behind.
“We’re in; going silent,” Kyle heard Caiden over the radio, and then pressed twice for an affirmative on his end.

All that lay inside was more stone hallways and dim lights, hanging from the ceiling. The complex was still receiving power, that much was obvious, likely through a generator or two. He closed the door behind him with a click and continued forward, checking his corners and playing it cautious. While they were invisible, they were not inaudible, and though the dim lighting helped with their camouflage, it wasn’t infallible.

As if on cue to that thought, Kyle stopped and motioned Bird to do the same, hearing the clacking of footsteps some distance away. Someone was still living here, it seemed. Turning around the corner was a gray and white uniformed man, dressed for the cold weather, and armed with a rifle that Kyle couldn’t quite make the model of. The man was clearly military, but he couldn’t make out the markings of the uniform and the dress style was unknown to him. He motioned for the two of them to stay still in the darker parts of the hallway, as the man neared where they lay crouched. They had their rifles trained on the man, in case of discovery, but such was unneeded.

The man seemed tired and disinterested, walking slowly with his gun shouldered to the side. He wasn’t expecting a fight, and he didn’t seem to be looking for intruders very well. He stopped a half a dozen feet away from the pair and only passively gazed around before yawning and walking down the next hallway. His boots continued to resound against the cold concrete floors long after he disappeared.

Kyle waited a minute or two before proceeding to the stairwell that lay only a few dozen feet ahead of them, not wanting to alert the potentially hostile personnel to their presence. He clicked on his radio three times, sending out a warning signal: Unknown hostiles present on site.

--
2245 Hours

The teams had to carefully manage the time they remained stealthed, as the power packs were not at all infinite. The stealth system could, at most, last thirty minutes and fifteen was the recommended cut-off. Using the shadows and careful bursts of camouflage, the second and third teams made their way past the sparsely patrolled first three stories. Caiden noted the location of the generator and the barracks, where he counted at least twenty, possibly thirty presently sleeping. The base had quite the complement, but they still lacked anything to readily identify the potentially hostile unknowns they were sneaking past so easily.

Whoever they were, they’ve been here for years, and they weren’t expecting special forces operatives. All was quiet, and the security system, or what was left of it after being hammered with snow for years, was spotty and full of holes. Kyle doubted that there was even anyone paying attention through the occasional functioning camera.

Of course, a tall, massively built man? That was more dangerous, and such was what greeted Kyle upon reaching the fourth floor.

Of course, it wasn’t just one, it was multiple, all hastily walking to some unknown destination. Based on their size, and the fact that they practically dwarfed any normal man, Kyle deduced that they had to be some ab-human individual, a super soldier project of some sort? But this place was anything but a research facility. He and Bird kept their distance, using their cloaking devices and remaining silent. On a hunch, however, he followed them.

And as luck would have it, they led them straight to their objective: the command room. He was still a far distance away from the doorway into the room, at least two dozen feet, but such was on purpose. Whoever those ab-humans are, they appeared more than just dangerous, they almost glowed as such, and with potential super soldiers, Kyle wasn’t taking his chances. For all of the special forces gear, they were still normal people, and between Bird and himself, they didn’t even measure up to one of them, let alone all ten.

He motioned for Bird to hold position and then activated his audio transceiver, a listening device for the more common man, to try and pick up what was being discussed past the closed doorway. He only got bits and pieces, and unfortunately didn’t pick up any names beside Reaper. What he did catch and deduce was of great interest to him: the presence of a downed aircraft shot down minutes ago, and the order to extend greetings to them. Kyle shivered at the last few words of what he assumed to be the commander of the team, knowing full well what was meant by that.

Still, the downed aircraft can wait. He still needed in that command center, and wasn’t sure how he was going to get past the occupants. He could go in gung-ho, but two soldiers armed with rifles against ten ab-humans in tight quarters was not a favorable situation. He continued to ponder the alternatives when the door opened and the group emerged from the room, dispersing amongst the gray, industrial, labyrinthine hallways and vanishing.

Well, that solved itself. Kyle thought, quietly praying thanks to Vires to not have to deal with them. He hoped he never had to, they all radiated professional coldness and a lethal disposition, beyond what any normal human could do.

Once Kyle was certain they were well out of sight and sound, he clicked his radio twice, signaling the third team’s arrival at the objective. He motioned Bird to take point and followed closely behind, watching behind them.

Bird fast walked towards the lone remaining guard and wrapped her arm around him in a headlock. The man struggled, but couldn’t shout or reach behind him to grab the small, invisible assailant that, while normally seemingly benign and frail, was the most lethal martial artist of the team. Applying further pressure, and dragging the man away from the console, it wasn’t long before the gasps for air and the muffled shuffling ceased in favor of eerie silence once more.

Kyle pressed a key and closed the doors behind them, deactivating his camo as he surveyed the room.

Bird laid the body of the guard that, minutes before, was surfing along the internet via his still open terminal alongside the inner wall, near the door. The room was the same industrial gray stone that he had come to expect it to be, but laden with terminals and consoles. Most were deactivated, likely to conserve energy. In the center lay a circular, short platform that appeared to be a holoprojector, and next to it was a larger, taller, flat platform that Kyle deduced was a holotable. While at first the complex seemed to be outdated, with poorly maintained security systems, it wasn’t until now that any sign of modern technology was present, let alone something as advanced as the almost unfamiliar computer systems found within the chamber. On the far side were windows, likely bulletproof, showing the white wastes outside. The winds grew stronger, it seemed, as he could hear the low howl of it pressing against the main tower they stood in.

He walked over to the terminal that the guard was using. He was still logged in, that was good. He minimized the browser and began poking around, eventually finding a schematic of the structure they stood in.

It was large, certainly, but it wasn’t at all important. It was simply an observation post, one of several apparently, as the major accessed a regional map. This operation was larger than intel thought it was.
Vastly larger.

There were several military sites in operation in the region, apparently kept hidden thanks to the inclement weather and the mountainous heights. Most were observation posts and AA-sites, with the occasional depot, but the one that caught Kyle’s eye was the facility in the largest mountain in the region. Valhalla’s Gate, a mountain greater than any skyscraper could ever hope to reach, and which dwarfed the island. If it weren’t for the snow-filled winds, it would be visible, even past part of the curvature of the globe.

And inside the mountain lay a facility many times the size of the others that dotted the landscape. He couldn’t retrieve the layout of that particular facility, but all the pieces began to come together for Kyle.

It wasn’t until Bird looked over the guard’s uniform that the most important question was answered. The man was a part of the now rogue Natralis Imperium, an infantry man to be precise, reduced to a mere guard at an oversized lookout post.

This wasn’t good news.

Kyle clicked his radio five times, the sign to clear the channel. He waited for a response.
Minutes went by with silence as Kyle looked out the window.

Then a light beep came in, the affirmation.

Kyle spoke lightly, the need for stealth still obvious, “return to Point Alpha, now.” He ordered crisply. He wasn’t sure if the cold was getting to him more than he thought, but his expression soured. The NI should’ve been long gone, but here they are, and he knows that a substantial number of the army and its leading officials haven’t been accounted for. Worse still was the lack of confirmation on Tiberium, and the presence of the ab-humans. Things were getting more complicated than Kyle liked…

2240 Hours, Outside

All was quiet, at least, until a fireball streaked across the sky in the distance, drawing Hawkeye’s attention to the sudden burst on her thermal. It was a small dot in the sky, but still visible, and given its altitude, it was likely an aircraft of some kind. A large one. She saw it dip down towards the mountains and valleys below and disappear beyond the horizon.

She noted it, but returned to keeping vigil around the complex. Then the command came in via Kyle’s voice. He didn’t sound pleased, but rather, very disturbed.
“Return to point alpha, now.”

She could see Team 1 heading back to her position, though having difficulty with the high winds and the uphill march. Teams two and three were still unaccounted for.

Minutes passed by like seconds as she waited alongside Team 1, which hid behind the crest of the small slope they used for cover. It seemed to be taking the teams longer to get out than it did for them to enter, which worried her slightly.

Then, smaller doors within the main hangar doors at the front of the building opened. Hawkeye trained her attention on it, but couldn’t see anyone walking through it. The wind kicking up the snow and the lack of light certainly weren’t helping her see, but the thermal showed nothing.

Then, a few minutes later, the door closed. Odd… Alis thought, attempting to find the apparently invisible people that just left, but coming across nothing in the attempt.

Ten more minutes passed by before she saw both teams exit the structure via one of the side entrances, hastily making their way to the rendezvous point.

==February 15th, 0010 Hours, AC-APC heading towards crash site==

Kyle was grim and lost in thought as the APC rocked from side to side in the rough, icy terrain and high-speed winds. The other nine members of Saber Team were of similarly mixed feelings on the changing circumstances. Dealing with a rogue, apparently well-equipped military force with ab-human soldiers was not what anyone expected, let alone a massive installation buried in a mountain. All of it belonging to a rogue state known for its highly oppressive policies and ruthlessness, even by Virisian standards.

And now an unknown aircraft just got shot down in enemy airspace.

“Command, this is Saber One, come in, over.”
Minutes pass by with nothing but static, then the general’s voice came in sharply and evenly.

“Saber One, this is Saber Actual, we read you. What have you found?”
“N.I. Infantry, ab-humans, and a large-scale operation in the mountains, sir. We also have an unknown, downed aircraft in the vicinity, moving to investigate, please advise, over.”
“Affirmative. Recover any survivors and identify them, then continue with G.O. 19. Will advise as necessary, Saber Actual out.”

Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night' Empty Re: Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night'

Post by Angusm3 Sat May 27, 2017 8:48 am

February 15th, 0100 Hours, inside APC
Jack sat in his seat, unloading the 16 remaining cartridges from the standard issue m9, making sure they were all there, and putting them one by one back into the magazine.  A single magazine wasn’t going to go very far in a firefight.  “Can anyone spare a mag?  I know enough about weapons to know your glock 19’s also use 9 by 19 parabellum rounds.”  Het proffered one of her magazines “Here, take the rounds out of this and give me back the mag so I can throw it in my spent bag, you’ve only got a single mag anyway for that beretta.”

“We need to get a transmission out to the HS Immortal, it should still be relatively near the coast, and they’ll be able to relay to Hayldrig.”  Steve mentioned from the front as he manoeuvred around a particularly dicey outcropping of rocks and snow.  “The only problem will be punching the signal through this damn perpetual storm.”

“We could try hooking the APCs radio up directly to the engine and flooring it, then we’d probably have a few seconds to get word out before it’s fried.” Het suggested.

February 15th, 0130 Hours, inside APC

“This is Grandpa Arnold.  Requesting one bouquet of Lavender.  We have one Poppy.”  Het said into the receiver.  “Alright now rev the shit out of the engine!  This is Grandpa Arnold!  Requesting one bouquet of Lavender!  We have one Poppy!  Grid C6 Grid C6 GRID C6! OVER”  before she could finish shouting “over”  the radio had burst into flames.

Grid C6 was, on their map, the mountain that was suspected to hold the black zone.

“Put that out, then we’ll get moving.  We have a lot of ground to cover.”

February 15th, 0140 Hours, Hayldrig
“Gra-pa Arn--d req-ting on- b--que- of lav-nder.  One poppy ---- GRID C6 OV-” was the transmission that made it to Hayldrig, relayed from their only carrier in the general vicinity.
The translation of this being, "Guardian Angels, Requesting heavy ordinance evacuation, one KIA."

“I want an AV3 jet to find them, scramble one immediately.  Send in the Valkyries for an immediate evac at grid tile C6.  I want any hostile rogue forces immolated.”

“Adriana, you’re the only foreign entity I’d trust in this room at this moment, if you’d like to stay, I’d like to ask you to remember that nothing you hear can go anywhere.”

Adriana puts a hand to her face. "Oh lord, When it rains, it pours, doesn't it?"

Adriana sighs heavily, before nodding. "One day of peace and quiet, that's all I really wanted..."

--Research Installation Zero One
---- Command Center

" This is Grandpa Arnold!  Requesting one bouquet of Lavender!  We have one Poppy!  Grid C6 Grid C6 GRID C6! OV-" A message played after the Emperor had arrived at General Heydrich's request.

"Well.  It seems that we are to have some more guests!" Emperor Straße exclaimed with a devilish grin on his face, "I shall entrust their greeting to your discretion General.  Make them feel the most Welcome!"

"It will be done my lord." Heydrich responded and turned to his personnel as the Emperor departed once more.  He was visibly confident with the situation before him, however was secretly worried about what would befall him should failure result and thus the Imperium's final remnant be discovered.  "Bring all anti-air systems online.  Vary the loadouts of Missile defenses to include SAM-TBs along with the normal ordnance.  Ready all forms of active and passive guidance systems."

==0236 Hours==
“Everyone ready?” Krieg asked over comms as he glared at the approaching APC, just a few dozen meters from the threshold of the minefield.

“Aye sir.” Responded the four others with him – Xena(AS), Viktor(ATS) and Viper(M) – as well as Athenia(M), Zsaz(CQC), and Freidrich(AS) on the ridge behind them.

“On my mark.” Krieg stated as he took a detonator in hand.  Below them, about 300 meters distance, was a set of explosives set in the snow and ice, set to trigger an avalanche on detonation that would push them into one of the minefields.

Thirty seconds passed as the APC passed into the direct center of the line of explosives on the ridge above.  “Mark.” He stated as he tripped off the explosives.  The resulting avalanche thundered down the slope and slammed the APC off the safe pathway it had been travelling along into a series of the AT mines, setting off approximately a dozen as it contacted them.  After it came to a stop, the members of Reaper team opened up on the vehicle with Assault Rifle, DMR, Machine Gun and Anti-Material Rifle fire, to suppress the occupants and to ensure it was fully disabled.  To the skilled eye, shimmering effects could be seen as the weapons fired – and in the case of one of the Team’s marksmen, the firing of their Anti-Material rifle resulted in a visible flash and brief glimpses of a portion of themselves from their cloaking.

--Natralis Imperium Outpost Alpha Zero

The facility was mostly clear after a ruthless firefight, 400 Imperium soldiers lay dead and wounded or captured to Kaidan's five dead and twelve wounded of 100 troops.  Kaidan spent the past half hour surveying the aftermath of the skirmish prior to making his way to the fortress's command systems were located.  Overall, this encounter gave him faith in the new armor system they were field testing as well as further emboldened his pride in the men and women he led - despite the unfortunate loss of some personnel in the firefight.

Upon arriving at the door to the command room, he was met with a salute from the two guarding the door, "Good to see you, sir!" they stated as Marshal Kaidan returned their salute.

"The commanders inside?" he asked, getting a firm nod to the affirmative, "Alright, good.  I need to speak with them."

The two soldiers nodded and opened the doors into the chamber.  Upon entering, Kaidan was greeted with a view of the valleys surrounding the fortress from the narrow windows that surrounded the chamber on three of the walls - along with the sight of Johnston, Grossman, Braden and Dietrich taking turns pressing a prisoner, one of the commanders of the installation, for information.

The four of them stood at attention upon noticing Kaidan enter, as they did he motioned for them to be at ease as he approached the prisoner with a folder in hand.

"Tell me, Major.  Is this man," He began as he took a knee before the bloodied man and showed a picture to him, "at a facility beneath Valhalla's Gate?"

The Major gave no response.  As a result, he received a kick to the gut.

"Is he there?!" Kaidan asked impatiently, still getting no response, "Tell me what I want to know, and your life will be spared."
"Nat.. ra... aet....num..." the Major muttered through the pain he felt at the hands of his captors.

Kaiden motioned to Dietrich and Braden, the two then brought him up to his feet before simultaneously using spare pipes they found earlier to smash the Major's feet and hands after untying him.  The Major's screams of agony could be heard from throughout the officer's section of the fortress.  He was then held up and in place by the two with arms spread apart.  Kaiden then picked up a sword recovered from the man's quarters, the very one likely given to him when he graduated from the Imperium's Officer Academy itself.

"I am going to ask one more time, and if you do not answer I will cut you to pieces one joint at a time," he said as he drew the sword, and leveled it with the Major's right wrist, "Now...  Is Emperor Straße at Valhalla's Gate?!"

"Y-Yes..." he responded weakly.
"How many personnel are with him?"
"A-Ab... 60,000 so...soldiers.  one... One-hundred t-thousand civilians.  Most...ly... re...sear...." the Major said as he lost consciousness.

"So, our intel was good, much as any of us wish it wasn't so accurate." Dietrich stated as she got walked over to and started inspecting her equipment in-depth.

"As do I.  Though we must continue on." Kaidan stated as he stepped up to an active command console and brought up technical data from within to a holoscreen in the center of the room.  The screen showed a topographical projection of the Falthra region with several Imperium installations around the region – including Anti-air, Radar sites and other fortresses.  “We need to next find a way to effectively enable our reinforcements to bypass the air defense net.”  Out of the corner of his eye he saw a shimmer along the wall, “which our friend here will likely know how to.  Isn’t that right, Viper?”

“Well there is certainly a way.”  A disembodied voice responded as a figure materialized from thin air, “and I would be able to give you that capability.”  The other officers in the room were slightly shocked to the point of reaching for their weapons before Kaidan chimed in.

“There is no need.  Everyone, this is our operative on the inside.”  Kaidan stated reassuringly, “Otherwise we’d all have been dead by now.”

“That is quite correct, especially now after our team lost Athenia.” She stated as she removed her headgear, “But anyway, I don’t have much time but I do have the key for you to enable the rest of your people to get here safely.”  She placed a storage device on the holoscreen and slid it across to Kaidan.  “On this drive is a virus, upload it into the defense mainframe through one of the consoles here after splicing in IFF transponder codes.  As a result, any aircraft you need to bring in will be invisible to the Imperium’s Air Defense network.”

Kaidan looked at the device closely, then turned and inserted it into the command console, he looked at the data, “You certain this will work?”
“Absolutely, was developed in one of the cyber-warfare labs at the Installation at Valhalla’s Gate.”

After a couple of minutes, Kaidan had added the necessary data before beginning the upload.  “Alright that is set,” he turned to his fellow commanders, “get the troops set to push for the Infantry LZ.”

“Aye, sir.” They replied before leaving the room.  Kaiden then turned to Viper, who was squaring her gear away.

“Anything else we should know about what is going on Viper? How did your team lose a member?” he asked.
“She was killed, by a sniper.  Took an entire arm off and she died of shock a half hour later.  Armor was set to vaporize per protocol as well.”
“So, unknowns are operating within the region…”
“At least two teams, one of which seemed to be from Hayldrig, the other… we’ve no clue.  Only explanation we could come up with is that they were likely cloaked, if that is the case the unknown team is likely from Virisia with that kind of tech.”

“Hmm, Virisian and Hayldrigans here as well.” He looked at the holoprojection, “They’ll likely be heading for the same place as us, and will certainly cross paths with them soon around the Second LZ.”

“Given their path, that would be correct.  Though you will also encounter Reaper team as well.” She stated as she made her way to the door, “Be careful Alec.”

“The same to you Talia.” He replied as she disappeared into thin air and through the door.  Before Alec himself left, he administered a lethal injection of morphine from an emergency medical kit in the room – to ensure that he could not alert his comrades. I’m sorry Major.  May you be transported safely to Valhalla and be greeted with open arms.

Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night' Empty Re: Operation "WHITEOUT" --- Darkest 'Night'

Post by Quantum Rain Sat Dec 09, 2017 11:12 am

“This is Grandpa Arnold! Requesting one bouquet of lavender! We have one Poppy! Grid C6, Grid C6, Grid C6, Ov-*static*”

The words rang clearly through the command center as the general pondered in silence. The occasional murmuring and shuffling as the crew went about their task, organizing data and decrypting the meaning of the message.

The radio signal was deafening by conventional standards, likely an attempt to transmit long range. The origin was easily traced to an empty, hilly region of the Antarctic island, several klicks from Saber Team’s position.

“Get Saber Team on the line immediately, and someone get me a map!” The general barked, this was a change in circumstance he couldn’t afford. After a few minutes, with the general hunched over in concentration, looking at the map and attempting to discern the intended destination of the signal, a crewman offered him a radio receiver. Saber Team was on the line.

He nodded toward the subordinate and grabbed the receiver, “get me an ETA on that naval task force I requested,” he ordered before speaking into the receiver.

“Saber Team, we’ve got a change of objectives.” The general began, marking an X where the signal originated from, and then drawing faint circles around it.

“Whoever your survivors are on that plane, they just sent out a signal. A loud signal. We’re still working on identifying them with what little we got from the message, but if I had to guess, I’d say they’re requesting evac. We’re sending you the coordinates of their last transmission; get there asap and recover those survivors. If we could hear them, the N.I. most certainly did as well, and they’re not the friendliest neighbors to have greet you. We’ll have a VTOL on standby for pickup within the hour, provided we can weave through the net of anti-air. Get them and then get out. We’ll proceed from there once we have them. Confirm, over.”

“Orders confirmed.” The Major’s voice replied over the radio, as calm as ever.

==0241 Hours==

They’d seen the wreckage, or what was left of it, and the plane’s pilot. It was a downed aircraft, that was certain, carrying heavy ordinance of some sort. Given the terrain, and the long distance the occupants traveled, it was likely a vehicle of some sort. That narrowed things considerably on who it was that crashed and why.

They were after the same objective, but Kyle was wary of advancing towards the main installation of this rogue state.

His fears were answered when he reached the ridgeline and found a beleaguered squad assaulted by unseen, likely invisible hostiles. And based on their accuracy and the speed at which they got here, Kyle deduced it was those same damn ab-human bastards he saw in the command center.

Likely trying to kill the only other group of survivors in this unforgivingly hostile and cold wasteland.

Kyle set to work immediately, remembering Virisian strategies against other cloaked hostiles, in the event such occurs.

“Alright, we all know the drill, we’re fighting cloaked ab-humans. We’ll follow protocol. Fire at their last known positions to shake them up and keep them guessing. Once they’re focusing us, predict them. And don’t be predictable. Caiden, take half the team left. I’ll flank right. Hawk, you’re on sniper duty. Predict them and kill them. Make your shots count, we don’t know how many you’ll get.”

The team split into two groups, with Hawkeye remaining on the ridgeling to provide over watch. Kyle took Rose, Elvee, and Bird around the right and opened fire, remaining cloaked to keep the enemy just as confused as they were about where they were.

Caiden followed suit, and soon a firefight sprung around the embattled Halydrijian team, who were hunkered down behind the burning wreckage of what used to be their APC. A battle fought by ghosts, it seemed, as snow kicked up around them and rounds buzzed over their heads in both directions.

The Virisians may be fighting ab-humans, but that didn’t make them incompetent. The two enemies were on equal-footing when cloaked, and so long as Kyle kept his distance, they couldn’t use their superior physique against him. Granted, that also meant that nobody could hit a damn thing. Rounds missed wildly, fired from rifles and machine guns with blazing speed and frequency.

At least it seemed the enemy was on the backpedal for a few critical moments before they adapted.

When they switched their focus to Saber Team, Kyle knew he had them right where he wanted them.

The two danced around each other in the snow, firing across long distances and trying to predict and fire at where each team guessed where the other would be heading next. Kyle himself kept switching and turning, even rolling to keep them guessing. It was an exhausting endeavor, but necessary. Fighting cloaked adversaries meant that keeping them guessing was key.

That proved more difficult than not.

And just when Kyle seemed to be getting the hang of it, something slammed into him with surprising force, throwing him back far, as he rolled across the snow, his camouflage flickering and shimmering for a moment or two before re-engaging fully. What in the hell was that?

He didn’t wait, he rolled and leapt again, moving and then keeping an eye on the snow for tracks. When he found a disturbance, he fired and ducked, swearing he could hear a knife sing just over where his head used to be.

”Crazy bastard is trying to *knife* me!” And he almost scored a hit too. What were these ab-humans?

Kyle rolled again and sprinted, kicking up as much snow to cover him as possible as he plowed through, thankful that the wind aided in his effort to try and blind the attacker. He didn’t want to fire, knowing full well that would reveal him to his assailant and would mean his death if he wasn’t careful. He shifted and bolted, weaved and rolled.

--

Chaos ensued around her, as snow began to fall with increasing regularity. The wind howled, and her vision soon became filled with rounds, explosives, and muzzle flashes against the white backdrop, with the ridge valley echoing every boom and every shot. The two invisible teams began fighting a hidden war against the other.

A war her team would likely lose if this kept up.

She saw Kyle almost get knifed, and Caiden was hardly doing any better. He was shot across the arm, scraping his armor as his camouflage shimmered in response. While Saber was trained to fight ab-humans and unconventional enemies, this was not an ideal situation.

Muzzle flash ahead of her. It struck the APC and almost hit one of the men hiding behind it. They were smart, at least, seeming to predict and fire at enemies, though sparingly it seemed. They were running low on ammo, perhaps?

Then she’d have to pick up all their slack. She trained on the enemy sniper, and with each shot she fired, Alis honed in. She moved every now and then, trying to avoid being predictable while also judiciously firing. She had a pattern though. Every sniper did.

In the minute Alis watched her, it appeared as though the enemy’s entire life flashed in front of her eyes, delivered by each muzzle flash of her AM rifle.

Her rifle pulsated quietly.

An outline formed of her figure, somewhat slender compared to most ab-humans. Confident, sure, cautious. She danced around snow where others would simply plow through it. She hung on each breath of wind as it blew, carrying her across the ridgeline and fallen snow.

Her rifle glowed faintly against the whiteness, a blue light coalescing at the end of her barrel.

Her face formed with all its features; young, potent, strong, with her sharp eyes boring into her enemies, and precision paramount on her mind. She seemed slower now, her movements more sluggish, her actions, predictable…

Alis’s heart slowed to a crawl. The snow around her seemed to hover in mid-air. Her target was moving, ever so slowly to another position. No longer did she dance, and appeared more as a statue, frozen in the cold and locked in place.

Her rifle pulsated more frequently, and whined, the light shimmering vibrantly as she took aim.

Ba-dump. Her heart beat out, louder than the wind, and greater than a cannon’s roar.

Ba-dump. The cold washed away, the battle mute against an emptiness that took over her.

Ba-dump. Her target turned towards her, those sharp eyes seeming filled with determination.

Ba-dump. Her life was a symphony, and Alis was now the composer, leading the final act.

*BOOOOM~!*

A beam of light and energy shot forth, and moments later a resounded boom trailed after it, shaking the ridge valley with its sudden and triumphant arrival as the round, coursing with electricity and power, bore through the enemy sniper’s rifle with a fury, tearing through the armored arm that it rested on with ease and shorn off her limb in a moment of bliss for Alis. The snow began to fall, the wind blew once more, and the battle resumed from its frozen state, only to halt briefly as all took in what occurred.

Red drenched the snow, turning it crimson, as a body, now visible to all, shook violently in the snow and screamed against the wind as she was carried away by invisible, shimmering hands. Red and black ash from the now disintegrated arm were all that remained of Alis’s quarry.

The enemy began to retreat. They fired more wildly, to cover their escape as the storm of snow, trampled over and kicked up, began to fall back into the valley and ridges.

==0247 Hours==

It was over almost as soon as it began.

And damn, did they get lucky. Of course, “luck” in this case came in the form of one of the best snipers in the whole damn Virisian military, but lucky all the same.

Kyle breathed a sigh of relief once the CATS reported no anomalies around them. He approached the soldiers that were hunkered down, his camouflage shimmering and then fading away as he revealed himself to the men he helped save. He took off his mask, his face now bare against the biting cold wind, as he scouted out the team arrayed before him.

He clicked on his transmitter, speaking into it.

“Saber One to Saber Actual, we have secured the survivors. Over.” He reported to his commander, walking towards the formerly unknowns that arrived in a blaze.

“Major Kyle Arter, Virisian Special Forces.” He spoke with resolve to the rag-tag group of Hayldrijians, identifying himself and waiting for reciprocation from the team’s current commander. He was focused, waiting to see what they would do next. The rest of his team uncloaked, but kept weapons ready, scanning the area for any more hostiles.

Caiden, however, joined Kyle’s side, his rifle shouldered.

“Heard you needed help, figured we’d drop by while we were in the area.” Caiden continued sardonically, a half smile on his face. He was slightly injured, a cut to his armor, as far as Kyle could see. Likely from a shot that clipped him.
