The Falsity of Star Wars

Post by SSJ Data on Wed Nov 18, 2009 10:29 am

On this topic I am going to discuses how some of the things they do in Star Wars cannot happen in real life.

1) Neutronium
Ahh the Star Wars "Your weapons can't pierce this HAHA we win"
NOT SO FAST
SW
Neutronium Is a metal and can exists naturally in the pressures of a moon
This means by default it cannot be REAL
Neutronium
REAL
Neutroniumcan only exists where the pressures are high enough to combined protons and electrons like in Neutron Stars. And you cannot like in SW bond it with other metals IE lomite and zersium
And if you still dispute me why where the Impreals afraid of Asteroids if they have the STRONGEST POSSIBLE SUBSTANCE IN THE UNIVERSE

How are you so certain? we already use nanobots to create stronger metals, so with star wars level of engineering, they may be able to bond with metals they normally couldn't.
Impossible? maybe. But a hundred years ago, flying through space was considered impossible.

Is it? Just because we cannot currently circumvent those laws, does not mean there are not ways? Man has evolved so much, that I doubt that we won't eventually be able to do that.

regardless Nuetronium is not a metal and it would be impossible to use it in the way Star Wars does

Ok, I agree with you there, bu there isn't anything to say that it is merely a different element with the same name. After all, kryptonite exists in the real world with a totally different name

In the Star Trek TOS episode 'The Domesday Machine', they say the device is made out of Neutronium. In fact after they blew up the Constellation to disable it, the hull was still in one peace.

I would like to dispute you on the kryptoite thing
In superman returns, there is in one part a list of what makes up kryptonite( on a store window). people then found something with the exact same makeup. Look it up.

Krypton is a non reactive gas found in Earth's atmosphere. It is a noble gas and is nonreactive, colorless, tasteless, orderless gas. It has 8 valence electrons which make it nonreactive. The most stable Krypton compound is only stable up to 40 degrees Kelvin It is commonly used to light up street signs.

Under standard chemical naming procedures, the -ite suffix of kryptonite would denote an oxyanion of the
element krypton. However, krypton is a noble gas that forms compounds only with
great difficulty, and such an oxyanion is not known

True enough, however, I speak not of Krypton the chemical, but of Jadarite, which was found in a mine in Serbia after Superman returns was released, and the chemicals that make up Jadarite are the same as those listed for Kryptonite in Superman returns. Because Krypton the chemical exists, they decided to name it Jadarite, after the mine it was discovered in, to avoid confusion. Of course, rather than green crystal, Jadarite is white and chalky.

Oh. Just trying to contribute.

There are several realty issues with the Death Star. The shear size of it would take much more than 15 to 19 years to build. Come on, It's the size of a moon. The amount of energy just needed to move it would be stupendous, and it would move more like a planet than a spaceship. But most of all the super-laser would be imposable. You can't just shoot lasers at each other, and expect them to combine. You need some sort of way to combine the beams.

Well, to be fair, the first one DID take 15 to 19 years to complete, and possibly more.

The SECOND death star on the other hand... Considering it was supposed to be larger than the first, I am surprised at how much they did in so short a time. I know it was for the plot, but still...

True enough, but we have to criticize it in this thrread 'cause data said so.

Speaking of which, who noticed that darth vader and palpatine are like the black knight and evil wizard from the old king arthur tales

How can you tell it was little emotion? he wears a big ol' suit that won't let you know what he is thinking. Anyway, after reading the novelization, it was revealed by episode 6 Vader wanted to kill palpatine together with his son, so that they might rule the galaxy together. Kind of like what he wanted to do with padme.

But not until the end, and it seemed rather spur of the moment I-cant-do0this-to-my-son-anymore thing. Of course, vader already tried that with one apprentice. Also, buy the force unleashed. Totally awesome game.
